None hospitalized but Health Unit reports 166 new COVID cases over New Year's weekend

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit reports 166 new cases of COVID since their last report on Friday, Dec. 31.

The Health Unit does not report on weekends or holidays.

No one is currently hospitalized but there are 419 active cases and 1,352 resolved cases.

Last week two people were hospitalized.

There have been a number of outbreaks reported in the last week. One is at a "congregate living setting" where five cases are reported, and the North Bay Jail has been reinfected with another eight cases reported last wednesday.

New provincial rules governing COVID means the Capitol Centre will be closed from January 5 – 26.

And the City of North Bay is shutting down all three of its arenas as part of the provincial government's most recent lockdown.

On the provincial front, refusing to report on case numbers in childcare and education is putting our children in danger claims a news release from the Ontario Liberals.

And Ontario's new proof of vaccination requirements for the QR code that can be scanned takes effect today (Tuesday, Jan. 4). Tomorrow (Jan. 5), the province is returning to a modified step two of the Roadmap to Reopen, which will close indoor dining and gyms until at least Jan. 26.
