Michelle Mulder concluded her Ice Cross season in style finishing in third place at an ATSX Ice Cross event in Lost Valley, Maine on February 24.

It was her first podium spot in the three races she attended in 2023-24.

"I was so excited and happy," she said.

"What an amazing experience."

However, what was more special about this Ice Cross season for the 39-year-old from Bonfield, is that her son Sonic Mulder was able to get into junior competition this season too.

While Mom finished 4th overall in the world rankings for Ice Cross, her son, who placed 10th at the event in Lost Valley, finished 27th overall in the junior standings for the season.

Mulder, who competed in her first Ice Cross race in 2009, says her son's first race was when he was only 13, and was the youngest in the junior division at the Ice Cross SAM event in Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici, Quebec on February 17.

"He's been a huge fan of the sport and grew up watching my races," said Michelle Mulder about her son, who is a grade 8 student at ecole secondaire Algonquin in North Bay.

"I'm very proud of his performance. It was not the easiest track to start in, with a drop-in starting gate.

"I'm lucky to now have a travel buddy for future races and hopefully we can train together once the North Bay all-wheel park is completed."

Mulder says they are the first-ever Mother and Son Ice Cross racers and she is hoping they won't be the last.
