Hit and run driver arrested

HIT AND RUN ON HIGHWAY 11

North Bay OPP were called after a northbound small vehicle sideswiped a southbound vehicle approximately 4km north of Sand Dam Road, Blyth Township this morning.
The small vehicle did not stop after the collision and continued north.

Temiskaming OPP were ask to look out for a northbound silver vehicle with damage to the driver’s side.
Police were able to stop the vehicle north of Temagami.

At approximately 10:45 a.m. on Friday November 7th, 2003, 71 year-old Kieven Mathieu of Temagami was driving his 2001 blue Ford Focus southbound Highway 11 at the top of a hill. Mathieu observed a small vehicle pull out in his lane. Mathieu maneuvered right and the silver vehicle collided with his, causing his mirror and driver’s side window to be smashed. The vehicle continued northbound without stopping. Temiskaming OPP were alerted to the accident and stopped a vehicle just north of the town of Temagami.

Thirty-three-year-old Gregory Chauvin of Ottawa was driving a silver 2001 Hyundai and had damage to his driver’s side mirror.

Chauvin is charged with unsafe passing, section 148 and Fail to Remain, section 200 under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

Chauvin is to appear in Provincial Offences Court, 360 Plouffe St., North Bay, Ontario on Friday November 28th, 2003.
