OPP have charged a driver after a collision with a school bus this morning on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren, west of Verner.

It was shortly before 8 a.m., when Nipissing West OPP responded to an accident involving a vehicle and a school bus at the intersection of Pioneer Street and Highway 17.

No injuries had been reported to students on the bus or its driver.

A 46-year-old person, from Markstay-Warren, was found to be a suspended driver and was charged with following too closely and driving while under suspension.

The OPP say buses make frequent stops, so maintaining a safe distance ensures you are prepared to stop safely:

  • Be Alert: Watch for those flashing lights and extended stop signs. When a school bus stops, you stop too!
  • Be Patience: Children may take a bit longer getting on and off the bus. Stay patient and give them the time they need.
  • Obey the Law: Passing a stopped school bus is not just dangerous, it is against the law.
