You’ve voted Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre into the final round of the 2010 Aviva Community Fund competition!

The same dedication, enthusiasm and tenacious spirit that created Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre, played a huge role over the past 12 weeks of competition. “It’s rather lucky that each of our productions, presents unique challenges for our creative staff and volunteers,” sighed Mary Ann Jones, Dreamcoat Board Member “We are getting pretty good at problem solving.” She laughed, referring to Monday’s “snow day” which could have worked against the theatre group poised to make the most of Mayor Al McDonald’s first Proclamation as Mayor of North Bay.

The Mayor proclaimed December 13, 2010, Vote for Dreamcoat Day, and by standing behind Dreamcoat, he made the greater North Bay area aware that they could rally behind one of their own once again.

“It really worried us watching some of the other submissions gather votes,” says Cynthia Roy, who helped recruit voters, “Some of the other submissions gathered momentum very quickly, and a few days after the semi-finals began we found ourselves down in 14th place. The support we’ve seen in the past 14 days has been amazing. There are a lot of people we’ll have to thank when this is all over.” She mused.

Dreamcoat credits relentless networking with getting them into the semi-finals of the competition. But they acknowledge it took a great many more people to get Dreamcoat into the finals. Dedicated volunteers, partnerships with West Ferris Secondary School and Knox Insurance, coverage by the media and the support of the Mayor and North Bay’s City Council allowed Dreamcoat to reach many more people within North Bay and the surrounding area, enabling them to gather enough support to push them into contention.

“There are two important messages that we want to get out today.” Says Hali Carlson, Dreamcoat’s Producer, “The first is that we are grateful that we’ve been able to get Dreamcoat into the finals so our submission can be reviewed by the judges and the second is a huge thank you to everyone who came together to help and who took the time to vote for Dreamcoat!”

Now the group must wait patiently for the Aviva judges to announce the winners. The thirty finalists will be scored from 1 to 30 and one submission from each category will be funded. The remaining submissions are awarded funds in order of their ranking until all the funds have been disbursed. Winners will be announced on January 25th, 2011.

Dreamcoat will continue to update its website: www.dreamcoat.ca and its Facebook group “Dreamcoat! The JOY is Contagious”. Information about the competition as available at www.avivacommunityfund.org.
