Cottage fire on Trout Lake island

Hemlock Island is in Trout Lake

A cottage on Hemlock Island burned to the ground today according to an eyewitness.

The blaze started around noon.

The island is in East Ferris about a 5 min boat ride from the Green Store on Trout Lake Rd.and contains 42 cottages and homes.

An eyewitness tells BayToday that the cottage has collapsed.

A resident reported that the cottage on fire may have once been owned by former North Bay mayor Stan Lawlor but that property is actually two lots over. A listing for a home for sale on Hemlock Island has an asking price of just under $400,000 although most are said to be worth less.

No firefighters from the East Ferris or MNRF are on scene, according to reports.

BayToday will have a complete story posted when available.
