A likely has likely been averted at the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board now that a contract has been negotiated with the Office and Professional Employees International Union, board director of education Anna Marie Bitonti says.

“We’re very pleased to announced a tentative agreement has been reached,” Bitonti said.

Board and union negotiators spent all day Monday in talks held at the Clarion Resort-Pinewood Park.

Details of the agreement are not being released pending ratification by both the board and OPEIU within the next week, Bitonti said.

“Monday was a very key day for negotiations because we had a lot of good discussions and problem solving,” Bitonti said.

The agreement covers about 110 educational assistants, secretarial, office and technical support staff.

The union would have been in a legal strike position on Wednesday.
