Beam to fill vacant Near North board seat

The trustee seat on the Near North District School Board which was left open after Jay Aspin was confirmed as MP for the riding has now been filled.

Michelina Beam, who was the next person with the most votes on the voter’s list in the Tuesday, October 26, 2010 municipal election, submitted her letter of acceptance for the position at Tuesday's board meeting.

There were several options the board to choose from to fill the vacancy; go with the fifth place candidate, advertise the spot, appoint someone to fill the position or hold a costly byelection. The board was unanimous in selecting Beam.

Beam will be officially sworn in as the new trustee for the Near North District School Board this Friday.
