On Thursday January 6, 2011, DAVID ELSE, 47, of Barrie Ontario, was convicted of animal cruelty charges in North Bay, Ontario.

In December 2004, Mr. Else was charged with animal cruelty after causing death to his pet cat. Before Mr. Else could be convicted he fled to Barrie Ontario.
Mr. Else was recently arrested in Barrie Ontario and sent back to North Bay on the outstanding warrant related to this case.

Mr. Else was charged under section 445(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada, which states, “Everyone who willfully and without lawful excuse, kills, maims, wounds, poisons or injures dogs, birds, or animals that are not cattle and are kept for lawful purpose…is guilty of a summary conviction offense.”

David Else was sentenced to thirty consecutive days in jail; he was also given a five year prohibition from owning, or having custody or control or reside in the same premises as an animal or bird.

“We take animal cruelty very seriously and we are extremely pleased with the outcome of this case.” Nicole Driscoll, an Agent with the Ontario SPCA states.
“We want people to know that all complaints are responded to and taken very seriously. If you’re convicted of an animal cruelty offence the consequences are very severe.
Pet ownership is a big responsibility that requires a life long commitment.

When deciding to commit to a pet you must consider that they rely on you for proper nutrition, shelter and veterinarian care, and it’s a pet owner’s responsibility to provide these necessities.”
