North Bay’s Darren Turcotte continues to pad his coaching resume with international hockey experience.

Hockey Canada named the Nipissing Lakers Varsity Women’s Head Coach to the staff of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team.

“I am very humbled and honoured to be part of this great staff,” Turcotte stated on Facebook on Friday night.

“I am looking forward once again to be working with some very talented young ladies!”

Turcotte served as an assistant coach for Canada’s National Women’s Development team during the 2014-15 summer selection camp.

Canada’s National Women’s Development Team will hold a selection camp in Calgary from Aug. 6-16, 2015, followed by a three-game series against the United States’ Women’s Under-22 Select Team from Aug. 20-23 in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The development team will also participate at the Nations Cup in Germany in January 2016.

Turcotte brings a wealth of international hockey coaching experience to the table.

The former NHLer coached the USA National Inline team three times (’06, ’07, ’08), he coached the US Under-18 Men’s Select team in 2004 and was named the US Under-17 head coach for the Five Nations Cup which took place in August of 2009.

The Team Canada appointment is on a part-time basis and will allow Turcotte to remain with the Nipissing Lakers Varsity Women's hockey team.
