The Barometern OT is reporting Battalion forward Alex Henriksson has signed a deal with IK Oskarshamn of the Allsvenskan hockey league; 1st Division hockey which is one step below the Swedish Elite League.

IKO coach Fredrik Soderstrom told the Swedish publication that Henriksson went to Canada to develop and become a better player without the puck.

“He has done that (developed) in Canada.  His trip appeals to me and it was a courageous move to travel there to get better,” Soderstrom told Barometern OT.

Henriksson, drafted 32nd overall in the CHL Import Draft by the Battalion in 2013, finished with 20 goals and 19 assists for 39 points in ’14-15 with the Troops.

“I felt I wanted to return to Sweden and try senior hockey and I got a good impression of IKO when I met Coach Soderstrom last week,” said Henriksson.

The 6’2”, 207 pound forward is the fourth member of the Battalion roster this season to sign a pro contract, joining teammates Nick Paul, Nick Moutrey and Ryan Kujawinski who signed with their respective NHL teams.

The move also officially takes him off the market as a potential Battalion overage returnee.
