QUEBEC – With an automatic semi-final berth on the line, the Oshawa Generals assured themselves of at least a fourth game at the 2015 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

Stephen Desrocher scored at 18:07 of the first overtime period to give the Generals a 5-4 victory over the tournament hosts, the Quebec Remparts.

Desrocher’s shot from the high slot eluded Remparts netminder Zach Fucale after the Generals needed a power play goal from Tobias Lindberg late in the third period just to force overtime.

North Bay’s Ken Appleby made 21 saves for the Generals.

“He was just ok today but he has one of those every 15 games where he’s ok,” Generals Coach D.J. Smith said. “He carried us through the North Bay series (in the Eastern Conference final) and again in the Erie series he was unbelievable. I will go on the line and say before this tournament is over, he’ll steal one or he’ll be the reason we win.”

Michael Dal Colle paced the Generals with a goal and two assists while Desrocher, Tobias Lindberg and Michael McCarron finished the night with a goal and an assist each for the Generals.

Cole Cassels picked up a pair of assists, including a helper on Desrocher’s game-winning goal. The veteran pivot also blocked a key shot a short time before assisting on the winner.

“We played a much better game tonight than we did (Saturday),” said Smith. “We controlled the play for a majority of the game. (Quebec) is a team that can score though and if you give them chances, they can put it in the net. We made some mistakes early that ended up in our net. They scored some tricky goals but their players score goals like that.”

Dmytro Timashov scored twice while Ryan Graves had a goal and an assist for Quebec. Goaltender Zach Fucale stopped 45 shots.

“He played as he usually does,” Graves said of the Remparts netminder. “He’s proven that he plays well in pressure situations and tonight was no different.

“What more could you ask of him, he gave us a chance to win.”

Both teams are off on Monday as the tournament continues with the Western League’s Kelowna Rockets taking on the Quebec League’s Rimouski Oceanic. The Generals are back in action on Tuesday night against the Rockets while the Remparts are off until Wednesday when they face the Oceanic in the final round robin game of the tournament.

Though they have clinched a spot in the semi-final, a Rimouski win over Kelowna would give the Generals an automatic berth in the championship game next Sunday.
