Bears Archery sweeps through provincial shoot

The St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears archery team travelled to the Ontario High School Archery Invitational Tournament in Richmond Hill last Wednesday to participate in a provincial competition that pits boy and girl archers against each other in team and individual competition using compound bows in the limited and unlimited categories. 

This year the Bears fielded teams in all four compound bow classes; boys limited and unlimited as well as girls limited and unlimited shooting.

For the first time in the history OHSAIT shoot all four compound categories were swept by one school, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall!  The gold medal winning teams were comprised of 19 archers of whom 5 were grade 9 students in their first year of team and tournament experience - 4 were also brand new to the sport of archery.

Along with the team gold medals Bears archers had great success individually.  Katie Watson and Hannah Poulin were rewarded with gold and silver medals respectively for their field-topping results in the girls’ compound limited individual category. 

Along with them, Jacob Hotten and Michael Conrad were awarded silver and bronze medals for their outstanding performances this year in the boys’ compound limited individual category.
