Battalion 2014 third round pick Cameron Morrison was named the Canadian Junior Hockey League rookie of the year.

The announcement came prior to the starf of the Royal Bank Cup, Junior 'A' hockey's national championship, which is taking place in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba this week.

Morrison, who opted to play with the Ontario Junior A Hockey League's Aurora Tigers this season, netted 31 goals and 22assists for 53 points in 57 games with the Tigers this season.

The 16-year-old missed some time this season with appendicitis in early November, but still led his team in scoring.

Morrison notched eight power play goals, third best on Aurora, as well as seven game-winning goals, which tied for second best total in the OJHL.

Throughout the year, Morrison would post 13 multi-point games.

Following the season, Morrison was also named an OJHL 1st Team All-Prospect and he is committed to join the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish beginning with the 2016-17 Hockey East season.

That commitment doesn't necessarily mean you won't see Morrison in Battalion green one day.

Battalion 2014 6th round pick Steven Harland was also a finalist for CJHL Rookie of the Year honours.

Harland was named the NOJHL MVP and NOJHL Top Rookie.

The Scarborough product led the NOJHL in scoring this season with 42 goals and 53 assists totalling 95 points in 52 games playing with the Battalion affiliate team in Powassan.
