The North Bay & District Midget AAA Trappers held their year end awards banquet this past week.

After a fourth place finish in the regular season the Trappers won their opening best-of-three quarterfinal series against the Nickel City Sons in three games.

The Trappers followed up in the semi-finals going the distance with the eventual GNML champion Sault Ste. Marie Thunderbirds before falling in the fifth and deciding game in Sault Ste. Marie.

On an individual scale, the Trappers had the league’s top scorer in the form of Jeff Jordan (36 goals, 39 assists in 34 games), one of their top defenceman, Eric Allair, was drafted by the OHL’s North Bay Battalion, and goaltender Colton Point got national media attention and recognition for his amazing 107 save performance in game 4 of the GNML semi-finals against the Thunderbirds.

“The players really rallied from about the half way mark of the season, came together as a team and peaked at the right time,” said Trappers Head Coach Mike Reise.

“We are coming off back to back seasons in which we had some success and it’s great for the program.  We had a bunch of players affiliate with the junior programs in the area, which gave them some more experience for what is out there.”

Reise was thrilled to see the North Bay Battalion take notice of their program and snare a homegrown product from the Trappers in the 13th round of this spring's OHL Priority Selection.

“Having Eric Allair get drafted to the Battalion is fantastic. He’s worked hard all year,” said Reise.
