Apollo Gymnasts Medal in Sudbury

The Apollo Gymnastics Club attended the Raise the Bar Challenge, which took place March 17 and 18 in Sudbury, Ontario. 20 members of the men’s and women’s teams competed, bringing home 65 medals in total.

In the men's competition, 11 year old Blair Kozuskanich was awarded 5 gold medals in the Level 2, category. Kozuskanich placed 1st on the pommel horse, rings, parallel bars and high bar. He placed 1st all around.

Level 3 competitor, John Green, earned gold medals for his ring, vault and high bar routines. He placed 2nd overall. Teammate, Ross Kozuskanich, also placed 2nd overall in the Level 3 category. Kozuskanich was also awarded gold medals on rings, vault and parallel bars. 8 year old, Patrick Kozuskanich, earned a silver medal all around in the Level 2 category. He placed 1st on pommel horse, rings, and high bar.

Competing in the Level 1 category was 8-year-old Griffin Lamarche.

Lamarche placed 1st on the floor exercise as well as 2nd on pommel horse and parallel bars. He placed 3rd all around. 10 year old Drake McKever, competing in the Level 2 category, placed 2nd on pommel horse and vault. He placed 3rd overall.

The sole competitor in the Level 4 category was Alex Summersby. Highlights include a score of 9.4 on parallel bars as well as a 9.2 on the floor.

In the women's competition, 11 year old Breanna Rowlandson earned a pair of gold medals on the vault and uneven bars as well as a pair bronze medals on the balance beam and floor exercise. Rowlandson was awarded the all around gold medal in the Level 3 age 11 category. In the Level 1 age 11 category, Kaytana Stevenson placed 1st all around, also picking up gold medals on the vault, beam and floor.

Maya Dokis, competing in the Level 4 age 12 category, earned a pair of silver medals for her vault and floor routines as well as a bronze medal on the uneven bars. Dokis placed 2nd overall. Also competing in the Level 4 category was 14 year old Andrea Rizzo. Rizzo was awarded a silver medal on vault. She placed 3rd all around.

On individual events, Sara Moore (Level 2 age 9) was awarded a gold medal on the uneven bars and a silver medal on vault in the Level 2 category. Jenna Lowe (Level 4 age 9) placed 1st on vault and 3rd on uneven bars. Julia Dokis (Level 3 age 9) earned a silver medal on uneven bars and a pair of bronze medals on beam and floor. Emma Fichault (Level 3 age 9) placed 2nd on uneven bars. Brigitte McNamara (Level 4 age 10) was awarded a pair of bronze medals for her beam and floor routine.

Also attending the competition were Layla Lefrancois, Abby Jarbeau, Renee McNamara and Sierra June Richardson, however, because of their age they are not permitted to compete for ranking and instead receive awards based on their score. Lefrancois, Jarbeau, and McNamara all received bronze for there overall performance, while Richardson received merit.
