Thunderbirds impress at Sudbury regional meet

The Thunderbirds swimmers delivered their best performances at the North Eastern Ontario Region (NEOR #4) developmental swim meet hosted by the Laurentian Swim Club on April 11th and 12th. 

The event was held at the Jeno Tihanyi Olympic Gold Pool located on the campus of Laurentian University. This was the first long course event of the season and it drew competitive swimmers from clubs across the North East.

Trael Daly Stevens earned the top t-bird honour bringing home a gold, and 4 silver medals from the event.  Daly Stevens also achieved qualifying times for the Ontario Provincial Championships in the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Butterfly events (Swim Ontario Festival Time Standards), having previously achieved his pre-qualifiers earlier in the season.   Trael also broke 4 long course club records in his age category including a 200 Breaststroke record that was set 14 years ago.

Riley Periard pulled Gold in the girls 10U 100 meter backstroke event, while Hailey Passmore took Gold in the girls 13-14 year old 50 meter butterfly event.

Other Top 3 podium finishes were achieved by Ashleigh Brady, Jane Chirico, William Hotson, and Jillian Picco.

Top eight finishes were achieved by Travis Allured, Rhianna Bovair, Leah Chirico, Michael Denomme, Samuel Denomme, Jesse Hammond, Peyton Paralovos, and Madeline Tanner, while Clarice DeBernardi, Myles Denomme, Lindsay Greig, Emilia Lainevool, Annika Lainevool, Meghan Norman, Rachelle Ouellette, Noah Papatheodorou, Cole Paralovos, Ryleigh Paralovos, Jaiden Paralovos, Regan Passmore, Drew Sinclair, and Olivia Trottier all came back from the meet with personal best times in their individual events.

Coaches Pierre Simard, Penny Lecour, Hillar Lainevool, and Ray Picco were pleased with the results during the meet and the success and growth of all swimmers.

The Thunderbirds will be competing next at the MAC April Invitational April 24-25. The meet is being hosted by the Markham Aquatic Club at the newly constructed Markham PAN AM Centre.
