Melina Levasseur from North Bay Gymtrix had an impressive 7th place finish on Balance Beam at the Gymnastics Ontario Provincial Championships held in Windsor last weekend.

Levasseur’s score of 9.6 was less than three tenths from the Gold medal score.

The 13-year-old Algonquin student also placed 11th on Floor Exercise and 12th on Vault.

There were 70 gymnasts in Levasseurs division this season.

"This is an amazing accomplishment considering the adversity Melina faced this season,” said Gymtrix coach Tara Alger.

A few untimely injuries during the season, including a broken finger from playing basketball just before her final qualifying competition, threatened to keep her from qualifying all together.

It was decided that she scratch from the final qualifier and take an extra week to allow Levasseur more time to heal and make up for some lost time.

Levasseur attended a last minute make-up qualifier in Windsor held two weeks before Championships.

She won the qualifying meet and her overall score was good enough to rank in the top 32 in the province hence moving her forward to Championships.

Levasseur’s coaches include Tara Alger, Marc Pilon, Robyn Grigg, Nicki Chretien and Bill Rhoads.
