T-Birds Soar at Area Swim Meets

The 11 and under CT-33 Thunderbirds swim team competed at the OMNI Top Fish meet in Hamner on Sunday, February 8, 2015.  This short course event was hosted by the Valley East Waves Swim Club at the Howard Armstrong Recreation Centre in Hanmer, Ontario, and provides an encouraging environment for new and upcoming young competitors with random bell ringer prizes for the swimmers.

Clarice DeBernardi came back from the event undefeated securing five 1st place ribbons, other top 3 performances were achieved by Myles Denomme, Samuel Denomme, Lindsay Greig, Annika Lainevool, Rachelle Ouellette, Regan Passmore, and Drew Sinclaire, while Emilia Lainevool came back from the meet with two top 8 finishes.

T-bird's swimmer Ryan Venditti secured the individual high point award trophy for the boys 13-14 age group at the North Bay YMCA Titans Invitational meet this past weekend.  Venditti dominated at the meet securing gold in all 8 of his individual events.  Hailey Passmore earned the top female t-bird honour bringing home a gold, two silver and 3 bronze medals from the event.  Other top 3 podium finishes were achieved by Jasmine Busschaert, Jane Chirico, Leah Chirico, Trael Daly Stevens, Clarice DeBernardi, Michael Denomme, Myles Denomme, Samuel Denomme, Elle Louise George, Jesse Hammond, Jenna Manning, Noah Papatheodorou, Peyton Paralovos, Riley Periard, Jillian Picco, and Drew Sinclair.  Special mention goes out to Trael Daly Stevens for breaking two club records in his age category for his performance in the 50 Breaststroke, and 100 Individual Medley.

The T-Bird relay teams excelled at the event with the 9-10 year old girls, and 13-14 year old girls earning 1st place in their 4x50 free relay, and medley relay events, while the 13-14 year old boys captured the win in their 4x50 medley relay event.

Cauri Ash, Rhianna Bovair, Ashleigh Brady, William Hotson, Annika Lainevool, Kylie Manning, Rachelle Ouellette, Cole Paralovos, Ryleigh Paralovos, and Olivia Trottier all pulled at least one top eight finish in their individual finals at the invitational, while Lindsay Greig, Emilia Lainevool, Jaiden Paralovos, Regan Passmore, and Madeline Tanner came back from the meet with personal best times in their individual events.

Coaches Pierre Simard, Penny Lecour, Hillar Lainevool, Ray Picco, Brett MacNeil and Jim Kelly were pleased with the results during the meet and the success and growth of all swimmers.

The Thunderbirds will be competing next at the NEOR 4 Long Course Event April 11-12. The meet is being hosted by the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club at the Jeno Tihanyi Olympic Gold Pool at Laurentian University, Sudbury.
