The final day of the NOSSA curling championships was played at the North Bay Granite Club on Thursday with three of the four North Bay teams playing in the consolation bracket.

The Elisabeth Bruyere boys team was ousted from the consolation draw and the tournament with a tight match against Espanola.

The Barons girls' squad from Algonquin battled Jeunese Nord of Blind River only to lose in a well played and high scoring 11-7 result in the consolation draw.

The Widdifield boys were successful in their bid to move to the consolation finals as they overcame Manitoulin S.S. with a 10-7 victory.

The Widdifield team eventually lost in a close match with Espanola to fall short of the Consolation Championship with an 8-7 loss.

The Widdifield Wildcats girls team continued their hunt in the championship bracket as they brought their perfect record from day one of the draw to face Korah of the Soo.

In what may have been the most exciting comeback of the tournament to that point, the girls fell behind 7-1 only to fight back and earn a birth in the finals with an 8-7 decision over the Soo team.  Widdifield met LoEllen in what could have been the deciding championship game.

A win for the Cats would give them the winning banner, and a loss would mean that the Cats would record their first loss of the tournament.

The double knocknout structure of the tournament whereby a team has to lose two games to be eliminated would dictate that the same two teams would play again if Widdifield lost.

An incredible match ensued and the Cats fell short to LoEllen in a 5-4 decision.  The re-match between the two teams would eventually have to establish the championship team.

It was the LoEllen girls that once again were able to handle the Wildcats and capture the NOSSA championship.

Both teams will represent NOSSA at the provincial championships.
