Locke lifts Abitibi over Mattawa in OT

TIMMINS, ON – Brenden Locke’s 30th goal of the season, 4:22 into overtime, lifted the Abitibi Eskimos to a 4-3 victory over the Mattawa Blackhawks Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League neutral site affair at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex in Timmins.

The Eskimos jumped out to an early lead getting a pair of markers from Brennan Roy to go up 2-0 before the contest was 10 minutes old.

Nathan Avery picked one up for the Blackhawks at 17:02 to move Mattawa to within one entering the second.

The lone tally of the middle stanza saw the Hawks level the proceedings as David Osborne beat Abitibi starter Logan Ferrington at 16:47.

Brady Clouthier put the Eskimos back on top at 10:25 of the third only to seeTanner Bowditch notch the equalizer for Mattawa just 41 seconds later.

Late in the first OT Clouthier fed Locke and the Abitibi forward made no mistake to give his side the triumph and the extra point on the evening.

Adam Williamd and Tyler Brodersen both up up two assists each in a losing cause for the Blackhawks.

Ferrington stopped 36 attempts to earn the decision for the Eskimos while Joe Sheppard faced 41 pucks in defeat for Mattawa, who did pick up one point in the extra time setback.    

The Blackhawks are back on the ice Saturday night as they head to Kirkland Lake to take on the Gold Miners. 

They will be back in region on Wednesday when they travel to Powassan to face the Voodoos.
