Powassan Voodoos goaltender Matt Young has made the most of a weekend off of NOJHL action.

On Thursday, the Kingsley, New Brunswick traveled to Hancock, Michigan to visit the campus of Finlandia University.

The NCAA Division III team has offered Young a spot on their 2015-16 roster and the 20-year-old netminder welcomed the idea.

"I am very happy to commit to Finlandia University. I look forward to helping the hockey program succeed in the NCHA and get a great education," said Young.

Young, who sports a 10-14 record along with a 3.89 goals against average with the Voodoos, joined the team in October in a trade with the Cochrane Crunch.

Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM and VP of Hockey Operations, is thrilled as Young becomes the first Voodoos player to commit to a NCAA Hockey team.

"This is great news for our new Junior A Program," stated Dawson who spoke to Finlandia about Young back in December.

"We expect to move on a handful of players to the OHL, mainly with our OHL affiliate team the North Bay Battalion, but we also need to help promote our older players to CIS and NCAA.  I have known Matt for a couple of years, and personally I am very proud of him and he deserves it."

Young and the Voodoos are back on home ice for a Wednesday night affair with the Mattawa Blackhawks. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
