Late surge not enough as Battalion fall to Generals

OSHAWA, ON - The North Bay Battalion didn't show any quit in Oshawa Friday night.

The Troops scored twice in the final 2:39 of play, but it wasn't enough as they fell 5-3 to the conference leading Generals at the General Motors Centre.

After Michael Dal Colle scored an unassisted tally at 17:05 of the third period, Nick Paul and Mike Amadio made things very interesting scoring two goals less than two and a half minutes apart.

Paul scored only 13 seconds after the Dal Colle tally to cut the lead to 4-2.

Amadio notched his 22nd of the season with only 15 seconds left in regulation time with teammate Nick Paul in the penalty box serving a hooking penalty and Jake Smith on the bench for the extra attacker.

Cole Cassels got the Generals crowd back on their feet as he registered an empty net tally with 8 seconds left in regulation to seal the victory for the hometown Generals.

After a scoreless opening frame, Ray Huether got the Battalion on the board on a power play at 13:55 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Newcomer Brent Pederson wasted little time in evening the score as he tied the game 1-1 just over a minute after the Huether goal.

Matt Mistele gave the Generals the lead for good when he notched his first of the night at 18:55 to give the Generals a 2-1 lead heading into the locker room after 40 minutes of play.

Mistele, who came over at the deadline in a trade with the Plymouth Whalers, recorded his second of the game at 13:42 of the third period to make it 3-1.

Amadio finished the night with 1 goal and 2 assists.

Jake Smith made 33 saves in the loss.

North Bay native Kenny Appleby got the win for the Generals as he turned away 22 shots.

The Battalion are back on home ice Sunday afternoon as they take on the cellar dwelling Sudbury Wolves at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
