Thunderbirds successful in Palangio swim meet

The CFB North Bay Thunderbirds hosted the NEOR #3 - Paula Palangio Memorial Swim Meet this past weekend. This short course event draws competitive swimmers from select clubs across the North East.

The CFB North Bay Thunderbirds hosted the NEOR #3 - Paula Palangio Memorial Swim Meet this past weekend.

This short course event draws competitive swimmers from select clubs across the North East. 

The meet is named after Paula Palangio a former parent, volunteer and director that dedicated herself to the club, swimming and to North Eastern Ontario Region (NEOR) activities.  The Palangio family was in attendance for the opening ceremony and the swim club was honoured to have Colonel Sean T. Boyle, 22 Wing Commander, and Wing Chief Warrant Officer Colleen Halpin kick off the event.

Thunderbird swimmers that took home first place finishes at the event include Jane Chirico, Trael Daly Stevens, Michael Denomme, Elle Louise George, Ben Macneil, Jenna Manning, Kylie Manning, Hailey Passmore, Riley Periard, and Ryan Venditti.

Second place positions were achieved by Rhianna Bovair, Jasmine Busschaert, Leah Chirico, Clarice DeBernardi, Samuel Denomme, Jesse Hammond, William Hotson, Rachelle Ouellette, Peyton Paralovos, Drew Sinclair, and Olivia Trottier, in addition Ashleigh Brady, Annika Lainevool, Kaylie Macneil, Noah Papatheodorou, Cole Paralovos, Regan Passmore and also clinched third place ribbons.

Cauri Ash, Lindsay Greig, Jaiden Paralovos, Emilia Lainevool earned at least one top eight finish, while Myles Denomme, and Ryleigh Paralovos achieved personal best times in their events.

The T-Bird relay teams excelled at the event with the 10 and under girls, and 13-14 year old girls earning 1st place in their 4x50 free relay, and medley relay events, while the 11-12 year old girls, 11-12 year old boys, and 13-14 year old boys captured the win in their respective 4x50 free relay events.

Coaches Pierre Simard, Penny Lecour, Hillar Lainevool, Ray Picco, Brett MacNeil and Jim Kelly were pleased with the results during the meet and the success and growth of all swimmers.

The Thunderbirds will be competing at the Dave Kensit Memorial Championship Short Course Meet at the Sault Ste Marie - John Rhodes Community Centre Pool January 30th through February 1st, 2015.
