The North Bay Trappers Major Peewee AAA team has propelled the 2014 Coach4Food Program beyond the 13 ton mark.

After flying through their practice they loaded more than 1.5 tons onto Tom Hedican's fundraiser for North Bay and area food banks.

On top of that, the Royal LePage Minor Peewee AA Trappers, with another high tempo practice, then pushed the total to nearly 15 tons to 29,756 pounds with less than one week remaining.

Because this year's fundraiser is a competition, individual totals will not be given out until its conclusion.

This year the top collecting girl's and boy's teams will be honored before a North Bay Battalion home game and have a practice run by the team's coaching staff. The third place finisher - boys or girls - will also get a practice with Battalion coaches.

Hedican, a professional goaltending consultant, is running practices using NHL and European skill drills for teams that do food drives for area food banks. Coach4Food, inspired by rock star Bruce Springsteen's work with food banks in Canada, the U.S, and around the world, will wrap up Dec. 21.
