Battalion blank Steelheads on Halloween night

The North Bay Battalion put together a solid 60-minute effort as they looked scary on Halloween night defeating the MIssissauga Steelheads 3-0 in front of a sparce crowd at the Hershey Centre Friday night.

Marcus McIvor rushed into the zone and his innocent looking shot from just inside the top of the circle appeared to be tipped by the Steelheads defender Greg DiTomaso and past a bewildered Spencer Martin at 6:59 of the 1st period.

After Thursday night's shootout issue, it's only fitting the Battalion receive a lucky bounce to get things going in MIssissauga.

Helpers went to Hueuther and Santos.

Early 3rd, after a unsuccessful Battalion power play, Jared Steege rushed down the left wing and from the corner slipped a quick pass in front to Matthew Santos who one-timed a shot past Spencer Martin on the Battalion's 27th shot on goal to give the Troops a 2-0 lead at 5:13.  For Santos, who had a nice shootout goal in the Marathon 10-rounder against Belleville Thursday, it was his first of the season.

Brendan Miller added a power play marker as a shot from Zach Bratina bounces off the boards and conveniently right out in front for Miller who blasted home his 4th of the campaign to make it 3-0 at 16:43 of the 3rd frame.

Jake Smith was solid all the way stopping 29 shots for the shutout.

The Battalion are back on the ice on Sunday afternoon at home as they face the Sarnia Sting.  Puck drop is set for 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
