Lakers battle Battalion for a good cause

The North Bay Battalion Hockey Team accepted a challenge from the Nipissing Lakers Men’s Basketball Team, as well as students and staff from Chippewa High School, to a charity basketball game. 

The game is took place in the Chippewa High School gymnasium Tuesday morning. 

Both teams, along with staff and students, battled it out on the court to see who is the ultimate Basketball champion, with all proceeds going towards the Special Olympics Ontario 2015 Provincial Winter Games.  

The Chippewa event raised $1,165.55.  

 The High School has already raised $2000 towards the Winter Games.

“Chippewa, along with the other area high schools and many of the elementary schools, have stepped up to help raise funds for the Games in a big way”, stated Cst. Merv Shantz, Games Manager. 

“From participating in the Adopt an Athlete program to helping paint North Bay this past Thursday, the students in North Bay have been very inspiring”, Shantz added.

The 2015 Winter Games, January 29th – February 1st are being hosted by the North Bay Police Service, with the support and participation of numerous individuals, organizations and agencies throughout the community and beyond.  The Service is working in partnership with Special Olympics Ontario to organize and run the Games.
