The Lakers dropped their third of the season – and second to McGill – Friday night at home, as the Redmen skated away with a 5-2 victory on the strength of a few timely goals.

The previous meeting between the two teams ended up an 8-1 victory for McGill, so tonight’s results were an improvement, but the Lakers still came up short of the two points.

Just under a minute into the game, McGill opened up the scoring and took a 1-0 lead that stood for about half the period.

Colin Campbell’s power play marker would tie it up for the Lakers, but before the end of the period, the Redmen would regain the lead.

In the second, the Redmen scored the lone goal to go up 3-1 and extended their lead in the early part of the third with a shorthanded marker.

The shorthanded goal sealed the fate of the Lakers, who had a chance to climb within one, but instead fell behind by three.

Jacob McDowell would added a goal with just under eight minutes left in the game, but with the goalie pulled, the Redmen iced things with their fifth of the night.

Kirk Rafuse made32 saves in the loss, while the Lakers fired 30 shots towards the Redmen net.

The Lakers are off until next Friday when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
