Anthony St-Jean and Tristan Lachance each had two touchdowns as the Franco-Cité Patriotes battled back from an 18-10 half-time deficit to beat the Algonquin Barons 39-24 in NDA junior football action on Thursday afternoon in North Bay.
Alex Gerrard also added a touchdown while St-Jean added a field goal and four converts. Zacharie Lavigne had a two point convert for the Pats (2-0). Jack Hegyi led the way for the Barons scoring three touchdowns. Nicholas St-Jules added the other score for Algonquin (0-2).
Both teams face each other again next Thursday in Sturgeon Falls.
The game in pink in support of cancer research will also serve as the grand opening of Franco-Cité's new multi-sport field. Game time is 12:30 p.m. There will be a pre-game BBQ at 11:30 a.m. with a donation at the door.
All proceeds will be donated to an organization in the fight against cancer.
