The St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears opened the season with the hard fought victory over the Algonquin Barons by a score of 19-7 in NDA Senior Football action to start the 2014 season.
The first half was filled with first game jitters, as the Bears turned the ball over several times on offense.
At the end of the first half, the Barons were up by a score of 7-0.
Nich Besner scored the major, with Jim Hegyi adding the convert.
In the second half, the Bears defense shut the door and the offense picked up its pace.
Two second half touchdowns for the Bears by Mitchell Loxton and a field goals by Darian Hemsworth put the Bears ahead.
A late game safety by Mathew Morowski finished the scoring for the Bears.
