The Lakers Varsity Women’s Head Coach firmed up his 2014-15 roster early in the spring as the team gets ready to hit the ice for its second year in the OUA Women’s Hockey circuit.

“We have built a strong core with our first two seasons of recruitment classes,” said Turcotte.

“They are a good group to build around and we will fill in holes as we go.”

Turcotte, who worked at the Team Canada Women’s Under-22 Camp in Calgary earlier in August, will have both his goaltenders back - Jaqueline Rocherfort and former Ice Boltz goalie Sabrina Picard - in the mix from last season.

On defence Turcotte has 5 returning defensemen back for year two of the program.

Victoria Bugg from Durham is one of the newest recruits on defence.  Turcotte believes Bugg will be an asset to their D corps.

“She is not the biggest D but she plays tough and honest,” said Turcotte.

Turcotte also added Ann Arbour, Michigan product Lexi Debol.

The 22-year-old brings experience playing overseas in the Czech Republic.  She can also play forward if required.  Her father David played for the Hartford Whalers in the early 1980’s.

Up front Turcotte received commits from Thunder Bay Queen’s Midget AA graduates Kaley Tienhaara, Sam Strassburger, and Bronwyn Bolduc.

Turcotte expects the trio to bring more offensive flare to the program.

Overall, Turcotte anticipates his team will be able to rebound after a 12th place 5-17-2 record in year one in the 13-team OUA.

“I expect us to be more of a transition team with a lot more speed this season,” noted Turcotte.

“Our returning players have one more year of experience.”

The Lakers open their 4-day training camp on August 28th.
