Battalion 2014 first round pick Zach Poirier and third round pick Cameron Morrison were invited to the Team Canada Under-17 Development Camp which began on Thursday in Calgary, Alberta.

The two Battalion picks are on Team White which collected a 5-1 victory over Team Green on Thursday night.  Morrison chipped in with an assist on the Team White’s 5th goal.

The development camp is a twist from the way the Team Canda Under-17 camps were run in the past.

Previously, Canada was split into 5 regional teams (Team Pacific, Team West, Team Ontario, Team Quebec & Team Atlantic) for the international tournament which takes place over the Christmas Holidays.

Now, the Team Canada regional teams will be reduced to only 3 teams which will be simply known as Canada 1, Canada 2 and Canada 3.

The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which was won by Team USA last year, will take place in Sarnia starting in late December.

Last year, Battalion forward Brett McKenzie played for Team Ontario at the event in the Cape Breton region of Nova Scotia.
