Alumni of the Pinehill Coffee Shop hockey team are celebrating their 30 year reunion this weekend.

Guy Soucy, owner of Pinehill Coffee Shop sponsored a group of 11 year olds (Minor Peewee AAA) in 1978 in what was the first triple A hockey in North Bay.

Don (Butch) Turcotte guided the team over 6 years in what culminated as a Canadian Midget hockey championship then known as the Air Canada Cup in 1984.

Many players took to the ice over the course of the 6 years. Three played in all 6 years!  There were many successes both on and off the ice and many life-long friendships were formed.

“Thirty years after the Air Canada Cup, we felt like it was time to celebrate and reconnect with teammates, coaches, parents and family members from the team from those very formative years,” says Brent Bywater, a six year player and captain of the midget championship team.

Festivities include a return to the ice for players and their children on Saturday morning at Pete Palangio arena.

Later there will be a round of golf at Pinewood followed by a barbeque dinner and social, all the Clarion Pinewood Park.
