On April 5 & 6th, 2014 the North Bay Y Titan Swim Team competed in the 4th North Eastern Ontario Regional Developmental swim meet at the Jeno Tihanyi Olympic Gold Pool at Laurentian University, Sudbury. This meet was a long course meet, meaning the swimmers swam 50 meter lengths- the full length of an Olympic size pool. All teams from the North East were represented at the swim meet.

For many Titans this was their first long course meet, including: Sofia Berardi, William Fraser, Joshua Gough, Emilia Lainevool, Sarah Lepkan, Meadow Merrill, Jillian O’Donnell and Jorn Van Leemput. Developmental meets are meant to give swimmers opportunity to develop their skills. Long course meets are significantly different than 25 meter swim meets, where swimmers turn half way through their race.

Titans who had been to a long course meet previously and made personal best times include: Jacob Brost, Aurora Buckley, Dalton Houlder, Julie Jonescu, Abbey Krajc, William Mitchell, Madison Piper, Emma Ringette, Karly Saile, Quinn Schroeder, Savannah Thibeault and Regine Wyss.

Many Titan swimmers placed in the top three spots in their races and made personal best times. Steve Cholette placed second in the 50m Breast stroke race, and third in the 100m Breast stroke race. Leah Dawson placed third in the 100m Back stroke race.

Evan Kilroy placed first in the 200m Breast and second in the 100m back. Sheldon Kilroy placed third in the 200m Freestyle race. It was Brody Marietti’s first long course meet and he placed second in the 50m Breast and third in the 100m Back.  As well, Alexis Mitchell’s first time racing in a long course meet ended with her placing third in the 200m back. Ayden Ryk placed second in the 50m Fly and third in both the 100m Fly and 100m Back.

Megan Tom placed first in the 200m Individual Medley and second in the 100m Back, 100m Breast and 100m Fly. Megan’s Brother Ryan Tom placed first in all five of his races: 200m IM, 100m Back, 100m Breast, 200m Back and 100m Fly.  Jenna Wall placed second in the 100m Fly.
