Glenn Cundari has been named the 2013 Jim Aspin Memorial Award winner as the Sport Executive of the Year for North Bay and District.

Glenn Cundari has been named the 2013 Jim Aspin Memorial Award winner as the Sport Executive of the Year for North Bay and District.

In 2013 Cundari completed his first full year as the Technical Director of the Professional Golf Association of Canada, a post he took up part way through 2012.

For a number of years Glenn was the driving force in the development and implementation of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) for golf.

Today, as part of his role as Technical Director, Cundari is the Master Learning Facilitator of the NCCP program and is responsible for the training and development of the nine national NCCP Learning Facilitators for the PGA of Canada.

These individuals deliver the NCCP Golf Coach workshops throughout Canada.

In addition, Glenn was also heavily involved in developing the new Long Term Player Development or LTAD Guide for Golf.

Because of Glenn’s knowledge of international golf landscape and golf skill acquisition, last year he became the only Canadian to sit on the PGA World Alliance Education Committee. This five members group oversees golf standards for PGA professionals from all countries.

And, despite all the new duties and travel requirements of the PGA’s Director’s post, Cundari took up a few new initiatives dealing with golf performance at all levels.

At the community sport level, Glenn designed the golf coach training workshop for Special Olympics Canada.  He also partnered with Golf Canada and Physical Health Education Canada in the development of the National Golf in High School’s program.

The PGA of Canada and Golf Canada have recently made significant revisions to their national junior development program called CN Future Links, and Glenn Cundari is the technical lead on this project.

In terms of higher performance, took a post on the Golf Canada National Sport Development Committee; this group is responsible for the athletes in the men’s and women’s Team Canada Golf programs.

Cundari’s newest international undertaking was with the Royal and Ancient’s World Golf Development Committee. Glenn was recruited to join this group of coaching specialists whose mission is to help developing golf nations. In early 2013, Glenn visited Trinidad and Tobago to help the islands form their own PGA and train coaches.

Away from home for more than a hundred days last year, Glenn considers himself lucky to have the understanding and support of his wife Michelle and his children Megan and Nicholas. Each of them share Glenn’s love of sport and thirst for knowledge.

For all he has accomplished in his field of expertise, Glenn Cundari is a most worthy recipient of the Jim Aspin Memorial Award for Executive of the Year 2013.
