Battalion can take stranglehold on series Tuesday night

The North Bay Battalion have a chance to take a firm grip on the series Tuesday night in Barrie as the Troops head down Highway 11 for game 3.

The North Bay Battalion have a chance to take a firm grip on the series Tuesday night in Barrie as the Troops head down Highway 11 for game 3.

The Troops come in to their best-of-seven OHL Eastern Conference semifinal with a 2-0 series lead after taking game 1 by a close score of 1-0 Friday, and then the 4-1 win at the Gardens Sunday afternoon.

After both teams combined for 1 goal in the first 5 periods of this tight checking series, the Battalion exploded for 4 goals in less 5 minutes to secure a 4-1 win, including a pair of Barclay Goodrow breakaway goals.

Colts Andreas Athanasiou got the Colts on the board at 13:59 of the final frame in style scoring a highlight reel goal that aired on the TSN honour role on Monday.

With game 2 behind them, the Battalion now have to look forward.

The key for the Troops will be to keep a desperate Colts high powered offence in check Tuesday night.

"We aren't going to win going in a shootout with them, we have to play the style that we play, obviously we don't want to play the style that they play.  We have to make sure we do the things that we need to do in order to be successful," stated head coach Stan Butler.

To be sure, Butler is making it very clear the Troops can't take their foot off the gas despite the 2-0 series lead.

"That team went to the finals last year, they are a good hockey team so there's alot of work still ahead of us," added Butler about a Colts team that lost in game 7 of the OHL finals last year against the London Knights.

You can watch Tuesday's huge playoff tilt on TV Cogeco Cable 12, or listen to the game on Country 600.  Puck drop is set for 7:30 pm.

Game 4 is set for Thursday night in Barrie, while Game 5, if necessary would be back at Memorial Gardens on Friday night.
