Midget AA Ice Boltz name Rickwood new head coach

Rickwood takes over from current Midget AA Coach Darren Turcotte next fall and will continue on building the Midget AA Program.

Turcotte is moving up to coach the first ever Nipissing Lakers Varsity Women's Hockey Program which hits the ice for its inaugural season in the fall of 2013.

Greg comes to this position with a strong coaching, teaching and academic background. With a Master's Degree in Coaching Studies, Greg has a long-time interest in coaching hockey at its highest levels.

Over the past 20 years, Rickwood has coached the Men's Varsity Hockey programs at Western University in London, Ontario, Brock University in St. Catharines and Conestoga College of Applied Arts and Technology Kitchener, Ontario.

In 2009-2010, Greg was a scout with the Tampa Bay Lightning covering the Western Hockey League. In addition to these experiences Greg has coached men's and women's high school hockey in southern Ontario for 14 years. During this 14 years Greg was also involved with the local girls' minor hockey association as the Director of Coaching and was the Head and Assistant Coach of a variety of representative teams.

Greg's commitment to the game goes beyond the rink to the classroom.

Since 2008, he has acted as a Coach Clinic Facilitator and Mentor for Hockey Canada to prepare new coaches for their first years behind the bench, and he offers specialty skills' sessions for hockey associations across Ontario.

Greg is a certified secondary teacher with over a decade of teaching experience in Physical Education; he initiated a hockey academy and senior level coaching course at his last high school and has worked as the Head Instructor at the Belmont Hockey Academy in Victoria, British Columbia.

Currently, Greg is working with the Bantam AA girl's Ice Boltz program and is looking forward to sustaining the strong Midget AA tradition established by Darren Turcotte and, in turn, further promoting girls' hockey in North Bay and beyond.
