Memorable day to celebrate Ice Boltz hockey and a local gold medalistMonday, January 28, 2013 by: Chris Dawson
Well, by the looks of thing North Bay has a new role model for young female hockey players.
The North Bay Girls Minor Hockey Association honoured Ice Boltz defenceman Corie Jacobson who captured gold over the holidays in Finland with Canada's Under-18 team along with
her gold from the Canadian Under-18 championships in from last fall.
The cermony took place prior to the North Bay Midget AA Ice Boltz contest against the Vaughan Flames.
Dozens of young Ice Boltz came to celebrate and even get Jacobson's autograph afterwards.
As a former NHLer, Ice Boltz head coach Darren Turcotte has seen his share of pre-game ceremonies.
However, Turcotte felt this day and ceremony was very special.
“It was awesome for the association get together and celebrate her accomplishments," said Turcotte.
"The day turned out great and it was an opportunity to celebrate and give younger girls a vision to be that girl one day."
The Ice Boltz were able to fight through all the festivities to win their game 3-1.
"We played well under the circumstances," added Turcotte.
"For Corie, she was a bit overwhelmed but it was something we had to do and it will be something she will remember for the rest of her life."
