Midget AA Ice Boltz win Silver in Ottawa

Monday, January 21, 2013   by: Chris DawsonThe North Bay Girls AA Ice Boltz participated in the Ottawa Sens Winterlude in Kanata over the weekend.

In round-robin play the Ice Boltz went 3 and 1.

Their wins were against Kingston Ice Wolves (4-0), New Jersey Colonials (3-1), and Oakville Hornets (4-3).

In their only setback, the Ice Boltz were blanked 3-0 by the North Halton Twisters.

With their 3 and 1 round robin record they advanced to the quarter finals and behind the shutout goaltending of Sabrina Picard beat the Sault Wildcats 2-0.

The team got revenge of their loss to North Halton in the semi's with a 3-1 victory.

With that win the girls faced the Sudbury Lady Wolves.

In the Gold Medal game, the Ice Boltz were defeated 5-2 by the Wolves and were awarded the Silver Medal.

The Ice Boltz hope to get revenge against the gold medalists in February in Northern Ontario playdowns.

Corie Jacobson was the top point getter on the weekend with 5 goals and 5 assists.

Corie Jacobson Appreciation Day

The North Bay Girls Minor Hockey Association will be running a Corie Jacobson Appreciation day celebrating both her Canadian Under-18 championship and her IIHF Under-18 gold medal that she captured this season.

Jacobson was part of Team Ontario that won the National U-18 title in Dawson Creek, B.C. before Christmas and then during the holiday break the Warren, ON product won gold in Finland with Team Canada.

The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 27th prior to the Ice Boltz game versus the Vaughan Flames.
