ORILLIA, ON - The North Bay Midget C Ice Boltz struck gold in overtime in the final of the Orillia Hawks tournament here last weekend.
The Ice Boltz started off the Tournament on Friday with a solid effort as they defeated the TCDMHA Rebels from Chatsworth, Ontario by a score of 2-0.
In the second game of the tournament the Ice Boltz came out flying and with great passing and strong defense and goaltending they cruised to a 6-0 win against the St. Mary's Rock.
The win gave the Ice Boltz a bye to the semi-finals on Sunday which would be a rematch with St. Mary's as they won their quarter final game.
The Sunday game was close for two periods as St. Mary's came out very physical and tried to slow down the Ice Boltz.
The Ice Boltz held a 1-0 lead going into third but with a solid for check and some great passing put the game away in the third as they scored 3 more unanswered goals to win 4-0.
The final put the Ice Boltz against the Tiverton Thunder the first place team from the other division and it was a tight game.
The Thunder opened the scoring in period 1 to take lead but the Ice Boltz battled back 2 minutes later to tie the game.
The Ice boltz took lead in second period and held until late in third period but the Thunder threw everything they had and tied it with 2 minutes left in game, and sent the game to overtime.
The overtime was a back and fourth period with some goalpost by both teams to keep fans on edge.
The Ice Boltz scored on the power play with 37 seconds left on a nice 4 way passing play that gave them the gold medal.
