Ice Boltz Jacobson wins Team Canada U-18 GoldSaturday, January 05, 2013 by: Chris DawsonNorth Bay Ice Boltz defenceman Corie Jacobson shed some tears as part of arguably the biggest moment in her young hockey career.
The Warren, ON product was part of a Golden moment as her and her teammates captured the 2013 IIHF Women’s World Championship in Finland on Saturday.
Karly Heffernan was the Canadian hero, as she scored 58 seconds in overtime to give Canada a 2-1 win over the USA in the Gold Medal game.
“Standing on the blueline singing ‘Oh Canada’ for the final time was unreal,” Jacobson stated on Twitter Saturday night.
“I think I might sleep with it tonight,” she said on Twitter about her new Gold Medal.
Jacobson was a late addition to the Under-18 squad which finished atop Group A of the preliminary round with a 3-0 record, outscoring its opponents by a 15-1 margin.
The Ice Boltz defender was recruited to the team after winning Gold with Team Ontario at the Women’s National U-18 championships in Dawson Creek, B.C. back in November. The defenceman was overlooked last spring when she took part in a national U-18 evaluation camp back in Calgary.
