The military marches to the beat of Coach4FoodWednesday, December 12, 2012 by: Chris Dawson
The weighing is done and, combined with proceeds from the 22 Wing concert, an early morning roadside stop for donations, and food collected, 22 Wing North Bay has broken the all time Coach4Food donation record.
The Wing established the largest donation record two years ago with 12,500 pounds delivered to the North Bay Food Bank. This year, with sponsorship from Honorary Colonel John Cutsey's FDM4 International, the military might showed once again as they cruised through that record with a donation of 12,911 pounds, the largest ever.
That rockets this year's Coach4Food Program to nearly 15 tons at 29,117 pounds.
"I am completely humbled by the generosity of the community. " said Captain Travis Robertson. "I am personally proud of 22 Wing's commitment to this excellent program."
Hedican feels that a strong bond has developed between the 22 Wing, Coach4Food and the North Bay Food Bank.
"I am personally proud to be associated with our men and women of 22 Wing," said Hedican.
"And there was amazing work done by food bank director Katharine Strang and manager Amber Livingstone for the concert. It was a team effort all around with the Wing, the food bank board and the community of North Bay supporting it in a way I have never seen."
Hedican, a professional goaltending consultant, is running practices using NHL and European skill drills for teams which do food drives for the North Bay Food Bank. Coach4Food will wrap up Dec 19.
