The Deal is done - Welcome home North Bay Battalion

Monday, November 19, 2012   by: Kate AdamsBayToday was just informed that the OHL Board of Governors has approved the move of the Brampton Battalion to North Bay.

The announcement came at the Board of Governors meetings in Toronto with a unanimous vote to accept the vote supporting longtime Battalion owner Scott Abbott's relocation of his franchise to North Bay for the start of the 2013-2014 season.

After the vote, city officials incuding Mayor Al McDonald, Community Services Director Peter Chirico and CAO Jerry Knox made a presentation to the OHL Governors about the city itself, and the plans to renovate Memorial Gardens.

The deal to re-locate the franchise was contingent on the community securing 2000 season ticket holders which was achieved and surpassed in less than 7 days.

The official vote comes 2 days after the Battalion defeated the franchise that used to call North Bay home; the Saginaw Spirit, as they defeated the team formerly known as the Centennials 4-1 in Saginaw Saturday night.

With that victory, the Battalion improved to 5-1 since the relocation announcement was made at North Bay City Council chambers in early November.
