Top 10 finish for Barons' Vaillancourt at OFSAA

The Algonquin Barons track and field team capped off their season with several excellent performances at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships in Brockville last week. The Barons had 14 athletes qualify for the championships.

The Barons had 14 athletes qualify for the championships.

The top result for the Barons came from Kaitlin Vaillancourt in the midget girls 80m hurdles.

Kaitlin`s time of 13.02 was her fastest of the season and placed her 10th in the province.

Vaillancourt also ran a personal best time in the 300m hurdles.

Maryse Boulay set a new personal best by 4 seconds in the junior girls 800m, finishing 13th. Tabitha Tremblay, a Barons javelin thrower, finished 13th, while teammate Annik Barry finished 14th in the midget girls event.

Other personal best performances were recorded by Johanna Van Shie-Copol in the senior girls 800m, Ariane Lefebvre in the junior girls 300m hurdles and Camille Grandmont in the midget girls 800m.

The Barons girls 4 x 400m relay team, consisting of Ariane Lefebvre, Maryse Boulay, Johanna Van Shie-Copol and Camille Boulay, also ran their best race of the season.

The Barons boys also had some solid performances with Colin Jerome throwing a personal best in the junior boys discus, finishing 14th, as well as Mathyeu Simard breaking the 13 metre mark for the first time in the senior boys triple jump, finishing 14th.

Other OFSAA qualifiers for the Barons include Diane Begin, Katelyn Robinson, Alexandra Scobie, and Kaylee O’Connor-Bergeron.
