Lakers U14 Girls Bring Home Gold

The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club U14 Lakers Green brought home gold from the OVA Hawking Cup held March 3, 2012 at Twins Lakes Secondary School in Orillia.


The North Bay Youth Volleyball Club U14 Lakers Green brought home gold from the OVA Hawking Cup held March 3, 2012 at Twins Lakes Secondary School in Orillia. The North Bay Youth Volleyball club was well represented as the U14 Lakers Green, Blue and the U13 Lakers took part.

The Lakers Green team finished pool play with 2-0 record defeating the Orillia Suns and Barrie Elites Blue. In quarter-final play the U14 Lakers Green advanced to the semi-final by defeating their younger sisters the U13 Lakers. The Lakers Green then swept the North Simcoe Wolves to advance to the finals where their claimed gold with a 2-0 victory over the Georgian Cubs.

The Lakers Blue team finished pool play in second position with a victory over the U13 Lakers while dropping a close match to the eventual silver medallist Georgian Cubs. The Lakers Blue would eventually drop a tight 2-1 (15-25, 25-22, 11-15) decision to the Wolves to finish in a tie for fifth place.

The U13 Lakers playing up an age group played well and gained some valuable experience. The highlight of the day came when the Lakers defeated the Actes Elite Inferno 2-1 before bowing out the the eventual tournament champions the Lakers Green 2-0. The U13 team finished the tournament in a tie for 7th place.

The Lakers U14 teams are now busy preparing for the OVA provincial championships being held at RIM Park April 20, 2012 while the U13 team heads to Kitchener/Waterloo March 30.
