SAULT STE. MARIE, ON. - The Assante ‘96 Stingers had another very successful outing at the 8 team Sault Ste. Marie PeeWee tournament this past weekend. The Stingers played extremely well in the round robin led by dominant pitching performances, including a tournament opening no-hitter against Valley East. A subsequent three hitter against the Soo All Stars and a four hitter against Marathon led the Stingers into the semi-finals. A sound Elliott Lake team was no match for Stingers pitching as three pitchers combined for a two hitter in a 6-1 win. This victory set up a much anticipated final between the host Soo Black Sox and the Stingers. Despite strong efforts by everyone, the Stingers fell 16-8 to the Black Sox in the final.

The Stingers were very impressed by the facilities and the host Soo Black Sox organization. Stingers coach Chris Winrow was pleased with the results on and off the field.

“This was a great weekend for the Stingers. One of our goals was to build relationships with the other members of the new Northern League, in particular the Soo Black Sox," said Winrow.

"We see them as excellent competition and hope to play them more in the future as we prepare for the Provincial Championships over the Labour Day Long Weekend.”
