The E.S.C. Algonquin Barons senior girl’s basketball team won their 2nd straight NOSSA title by downing ESC Horizon in the final 42-28 on Saturday night at the Algonquin gym. Once again Jolinne Maisonneuve dominated offensively scoring 24 points, while Alisha Perron chipped in with 13. The Barons never trailed in the final, leading 8-6 after the first period, and extended their lead to 26-13 at halftime.

“We knew that we could run on them, so it was just a matter of time before they (Horizon) wore out," said Barons head coach Tim Lowe.

“Our defense was outstanding all weekend, and as the saying goes, defense wins championships. At the beginning of the season, we sat down as a team and set out our goals – make the playoffs, win NDA and win NOSSA – so now we’re off to OFSAA," he added.

“The girls are very deserving."

OFSAA is being hosted by Trinity College School in Port Hope and the Barons managed the 7th seed and meet up with Thorold S.S. on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.

Lowe also added that this year’s championship has many solid teams, so their spot is very respectable.

Earlier the Barons junior team downed Marymount Academy 47-38 to make it a clean sweep of the NOSSA banners. Chelsey Tremblay led the Barons with 10 points, while Camille Courville and Alex Parker each poured in 9 and 8 points respectively.
