Turnovers were costly as the Widdifield Wildcats lost three fumbles and Jason Ethier threw three interceptions as the Hammarskjold Vikings from Thunder Bay upended the locals 17-3 to capture the Northern Bowl title at Esther Shiner stadium in North York on Saturday.

The Wildcats started strong moving down the field on their first possession but that drive ended abruptly when Jason Ethier was picked off in the end zone.

The Cats did get on the board first though as Andrew Mills booted a 25 yard field goal in the first quarter to give Widdifield their only lead of the day 3-0.

Hammarskjold did all the offensive damage they needed in the second quarter scoring both of their touchdowns before half time.

In the Central Bowl, Eastview S.S. from Barrie doubled the St. Mary’s Knights in their preferred Bowl game 16-8. The victory halts the Knights attempt at capturing a record fourth Central Bowl title.
