Posted

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of cute and fiery Veronica O’Shea. Vera passed away peacefully at her residence in North Bay on Tuesday December 9, 2014 at the age of 74. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick and her parents Margaret and James Somers. She will be sadly missed by her daughters Mairead (Jeff Laferriere) of Haileybury, Siobhan of Toronto and Niamh (Adam Gallardi) of North Bay. She was a loving “Grandma lump” to Sean, Cavan, Kaylin, Corbin, Shea, Myranda and Connor. She is also survived by her siblings Eileen Egan (Seamie predeceased), Jim Somers (Brenda), Neil Somers (Breda), Rita (John O’Neill) and Paddy (Mary Somers). In addition to the love she showed her family, her furry grandpets, Jake, Charlie and Fiona, held a special place in her heart.  Vera worked for many years at the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital as a Right’s Advisor. The patients and staff were well served by her stubborn attitude and strong sense of social justice. Vera extended her passion for mental health into the community with her volunteer time at People for Equal Partnership in Mental Health (PEP). Her dedication to mental health was recognized by the House of Commons with a Leadership Award in 2013. Vera will be lovingly remembered for her compassion and unwavering moral compass. Family receiving friends at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd., on Sunday December 14th from 1 pm until 3 pm.
