(1920-2014) - John Andrew Wootton passed away peacefully in his sleep at Nipissing Manor on November 5, 2014 a few weeks short of his 94th birthday. Jack Wootton, son of the late Percy and Ella Wootton, is survived by his wife of 70 years Ruth Wootton and seven of their eleven children; Marilyn (deceased), Gary (deceased), Gerald (Miriam), Barbara Benoit (deceased), Beverly Glass (Dan), Elisabeth, Susan Humbert (Larry), Jack Jr. (Susan), Marian Kotsilidis (Mike), Steven (deceased) and Cheryl Ranger (Ron). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Jack was the Director of Engineering at Rahn Metals and Plastics until his retirement in 1985, where he worked on many innovative designs for industrial plastic pipe. In his youth, Jack was a notable skier with many championships to his credit in ski jumping and slalom as a member of the Laurentian ski team. He later pursued cross country skiing at the fledgling Nordic Ski Club in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. He served with RCAF from 1941 until 1945. He was stationed in Calgary at the Number 10 Repair Depot where he met and married Ruth in 1944. Jack enjoyed woodworking but he loved to hunt and fish. There were many fishing trips and hunting seasons spent in the bush with his brothers Bob and Bert and his best friend Fred Haskins. Jack will be greatly missed by Ruth and his family. As per Jack’s wishes, there will be a private family service held at a later date.  Donations to Discovery North Bay Museum will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.
